Day 107 We should count our blessings , but we should make our blessings count Woman is a song written and performed by John Lennon from his 1980 album Double Fantasy. A great album and one I still listen to today.Lennon wrote it as an ode to his wife Yoko Ono, and to all women. The track begins with Lennon whispering, For the other half of the sky ..., a paraphrase of a Chinese proverb, once used by Mao Zedong. Would recommend that all listen to it and start respecting women !!! This day in 1964 Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly an airplane, solo , around the world Sirimavoa Bandaranaike was born this day in 1916 and became the first Female pm of Ceylon This day in 1969 Bernadette Devlin became the youngest woman MP aged 21 Also this day in 1984 WPC Yvonne Fletcher was shot dead during an anti Gadaafi protest outside the Libyan People’s Bureau in London. Ten others were wounded and the events led to an 11-day siege of the building. Diplomatic relations with Libya were severed on 23rd April and her killer escaped under the cloak of diplomatic immunity. Bastards as we know what the outcome was !! And this day in 2013 The funeral of Baroness Margaret Thatcher. She was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century and to date the only woman to have held the office. She was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire that was formerly her fathers grocery shop. There is commemorative plaque on the building. sorry Janice Jones but she did good !! We lost this day in 1998 Linda McCartney - sad Talking Beatles this day in 1971, All four Beatles had solo singles in the UK charts, Paul McCartney with Another Day, John Lennon, Power To The People, George Harrison, My Sweet Lord and Ringo Starr, It Dont Come Easy. that must be a record!! And still in Liverpool ( you seen this Karen Hoggarth ) this day in 1940 The birth, in Liverpool, of Billy Fury. He equalled The Beatles record of 24 hits in the 1960s, and spent 332 weeks in the UK charts, without ever reaching Number One. In 2003 a bronze statue of Fury was unveiled at the Albert Dock, Liverpool. Cant believe this with all the money and acting , however this day in 1860 The first world title boxing match took place near Farnborough, Hampshire, when Briton Tom Sayers took on American John Heenan. Despite being 46 lb lighter, Sayers forced a draw after 42 rounds of bare-knuckle fighting. This day in 1888 The formation of the English Football League took place at a formal meeting in the Royal Hotel, Manchester. Wow what a race this is this year !! couldnt believe the results last night - David Podmore Mark Woodward and Jeanette Allman and also Graham Flapper Bethell and Gerald Williams and Manu Bonnel However the last time Arsenal and Man U both missed out on a top 4 place was 35 years ago - in the 78-79 season . However that same season Liverpool won the title and Everton finished 4th . Liverpool won their last 4 games without conceding a goal - they also won 3-0 at Old Trafford - like this season - and to top it Arsenal won the FA Cup - well hows your money on now ?? gotta be for the 96 surely !! For Oliver Holmes This day in 1951 The Peak District became the United Kingdoms first National Park. Bet you been there !! This day in 1956 Premium Bonds were introduced into Britain by the Conservative Chancellor, Harold Macmillan. They were described as a ‘squalid raffle’ and as a ‘cold, inhuman activity’. 750,000 Methodists were urged by their church leaders to boycott the scheme. Has anyone won on them ??? This day in 1629 Horses were introduced to the USA - where would cowboys be without them !! this day in 1875 Snooker was invented by Sir Nevillie Chamberlain - Um pot black Un real this day in 1969 The age at which a person was eligible to vote in Britain was lowered from 21 to 18. ???? and today cant marry , go to pub and vote - till 18 - yet can win millions on lottery at 16 !!! bullshit This day in 1986 British journalist John McCarthy was kidnapped in Beirut. He was not released until August 1991. seems like yesterday The Camera never lies - was #1 for Buck Fizz this day in 1982 Guess there is Three steps to Heaven - this day in 1960 Eddie Cochran died in RTA in Chippenham Also this day in 1810 Lewis M Norton patented Pineapple Cheese ???
