Dear DeSoto Friends, I have attached the agenda for the next council meeting which is Tuesday, Sept. 17 (tomorrow). This meeting will have the final vote on the budget, the tax rate and the work plan. The other item of interest is a change in the mobile vendor policy allowing for more time to stop and sell food products (the proposal is to increase it from 15 min to 45 min). I encourage you to participate in the DeSoto Dining and Dialogue that is on Saturday, Sept 21 from 6:30-9:30pm at the new "Academies" at DeSoto High School. It will be helpful to understand the upcoming issues for our schools and the vision from Dr. Harris, our Superintendent. I attached a flyer of the event for additional information. Lastly, there was a public meeting held for the Capital Improvement Projects that are being looked at for upcoming 5-year plan. None of these projects have been funded yet and they are typically long-term projects that cost more than $100K. These projects are above the money set aside for the annual budgets and would require new bonds to be issued for them. You should have received a opinion postcard for your consideration in the mail by now. It lists the projects that have been discussed so far, but feel free to add your input under the comment section to voice your opinion. From the meeting, it was explained that in general, for every $1M taken out in bonds - property taxes will increase approximately $0.003 per $100 valuation for 20 yrs. I will try to get more information about these projects, most are self-explanatory, but some are yet to be defined such as the Aquatic Center and the Park Improvements.
