December 30, 1928: Musical innovator and hero, BO DIDDLEY is born Ellas Otha Bates in McComb, MS. DIDDLEYs unique style and catchy beat burst on the scene in early 1955 as he took raw, rhythmic music and delivered it to the waiting masses. We lost the legendary BO on June 2, 2008 at the age of 79. Ill never forget meeting BO in college and getting him to cut a drop for my radio show. He was the greatest. Here he is performing his R&B hit Bo Diddley live on the Ed Sullivan show (Nov, 1955), even though Sullivan had asked him not to perform it. He was supposed to perform Sixteen Tons instead.
