Devotional - Thursday, 14th August 2014 Heart Check II ‘But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do’ Acts 13:22. He was just a shepherd boy when God said to Saul ‘‘But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command’ 1 Sam. 13:14’. God said about David, “I have found David, He is a man after My heart’. Wow! David’s heart is committed to God, totally committed to God. If we were to examine David’s heart through a microscope or x-ray David’s heart, what would we see? While I was studying this, I saw a lot of things in David heart. So it is my prayer that as we continue in our study of David, the Holy Spirit will reveal more and more of David’s heart to us in order to shape our own hearts with God. However, over the next few days we will examine eight attributes of David’s heart. May God help us to imbibe much more by His Holy Spirit in Jesus Name. An Obedient Heart. When we look at David’s heart, we see an obedient heart. ‘God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do’ Acts 13:22. The key thing about the heart of David is that it is a heart of obedience. God said, ‘He will do everything I want him to do’. It is amazing how people would say, ‘tell me what to do I will do it’. I had one of such encounters and I felt God was saying to me, ‘he won’t do it’. But in my thought I was wrestling with how sincere the man looked. And I felt God saying, ‘he won’t do it even if you tell him what to do’. So I told him what to do and guess what, he did not do it. In the time of Jeremiah people like this came to him weeping as asking him to give them the counsel of God. And God said to Jeremiah, ‘don’t tell them, they won’t do it. Answer them; give them a prophecy after their own heart. Tell them what they want to hear’. God is dangerous. God can give you a prophecy that you want to hear. You keep going everywhere looking for prophecy, God can give you the one you want to hear. Jeremiah was telling the people “Thus says the Lord” and he was telling the people what they wanted to hear. Why because God said ‘they will not do what I have told them to do’. They will not obey. Your response to God stems from your heart. Prayer: Holy Spirit, grow me in obedience and commitment to God, in Jesus Name.
