Devotional | #reSURGE Day 26 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- BROKEN BEYOND REPAIR TEXT: Psalm 11:3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? Memory verse: Isaiah 3:10 Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. I listen to terrible stories on a daily basis and I see things that baffle me. If you live in Nigeria, it is common for abnormality to appear normal. So the gory stories become acceptable. There is the story of a 33 year old Franka who has dated Ovie for almost half of her life. She and Ovie met when she was in JSS3. From seat partners they became, well, bed partners. She had aborted three times for Ovie. The last one the “doctor” told her categorically, “you have lost the capacity to bear children”. Now it is time to get married but Ovie’s mum is saying she must show signs of pregnancy before the customary rights are done! By the way she only gave her life to Christ last week. This, my beloved reader is a terrible place to be in; even the elect struggle to survive from such self-inflicted tribulations! Kris is a 29 year old rusticated former undergraduate; he used to be a member of the Aye confraternity. What is the hope of starting over at 29? If he goes back to school, and maybe God decides to be merciful, ASSU doesn’t go on their usual strike; he would be done in four years. That means at 33 he would graduate. At that age, he is too old to apply as a graduate trainee, yet he doesn’t have the relevant experience to be hired as an experienced staff. Kris has just given his life to Christ too! What can be done to a glass already formed, taken out of the kiln, and suddenly falls of the shelf shattering into pieces? Even David asked, “What can the righteous do if the foundation be destroyed”? As depressing as these situations sound, God has never delegated the responsibility of repairing broken foundations to the righteous. In fact God is the expert at making ways when there seem to be no way. The only task expected of the righteous is that they should say to one another, “it is well”. The maker of principles and laws is certainly above the law. He got a virgin pregnant, walked on water, raised the body of a rotten corpse back to life, put water in the wilderness, and fed a nation from heaven. God is the master porter and he is well able to mold all broken pieces. He is the one who restores the years the cankerworm and locust has eaten (Joel 2:25). I mean is there anything too hard for him to do? (Jeremiah 33:27; Luke 18:27; Genesis 18:14) But if you think that the situation you are in is beyond the Omni potency of God, well I have got good news for you, “The lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the earth” (Rev. 13:8). This he did in anticipation of the many foolish mistakes you have made and you will make!
