Did Ebola kill Gambia Bird Airlines? During the Ebola crisis I - TopicsExpress

Did Ebola kill Gambia Bird Airlines? During the Ebola crisis I had warned all African Airlines that any airline that suspended flights to Nigeria will have problems. I based it on my knowledge of the inner workings of the Nigerian environment as it pertains to Travel and tourism. The knee jerk reaction of the Gambia government in banning flights to Nigeria then has finally taken its toll. Gambia Bird a fledgling start up Airline from the Gambia has suffered a lot at the hands of the Nigerian Aviation Authorities. First to get landing rights into Nigeria and now to restart after ebola. It is unfortunate that the airline might go the way of Slok airlines. Slok is a Nigerian owned airline but was banned by Nigerian government but had to pack up after a few months of operation from the Gambia. What lessons are there for Gambians and Aviators. Is it a jinx? How do we break it? Culled from worldairlinenews Gambia Bird ceases operations, an apparent victim of the Ebola crisis in west Africa By Bruce Drum on December 31, 2014 Gambia Bird Airlines (Banjul), since the Ebola crisis spread, continued to operate the Banjul – London (Gatwick) route but dropping the stop in Sierra Leone due to the on-going crisis. A few days ago, the company announced they would add London (Gatwick)-Accra and Gatwick-Lagos flights. However yesterday (December 30), the west African airline ceased all operations. The airline issued this statement yesterday: Gambia Bird Airlines has suspended commercial flight operations until further notice. This operational decision is effective as of December 30. We wish to express our sincere regrets for disrupting the travel plans of those of our esteemed guests who are booked on the suspended flights. We further wish to confirm that we will provide a full refund of all tickets purchased prior to this flight suspension. Furthermore, Gambia Bird Airlines wishes to reaffirm that we will comply with all our obligations and that we will provide all necessary support services to passengers affected by the flight suspension.
