Discussion for the day? The universal income being discussed in the Swiss parliament is said by some rbe supporters to be an excellent transition, but might it have negative and total reverse effect?... Here is what some think...... It could be a great way of a transition if it was within a transition package, unfortunately it is not. Without being within a transition package the universal basic income can only be seen as an economic safety net for those unable to work because capitalism can not been able togive them a job. It [ universal income ] also might have some negative global impacts if it is only rolled out in rich western countries , who remain at the top of wealthy countries at the expense of many poorer countries through unfair WTO policies. The poor of the rich countries are already rich and enjoy a much higher standard of living compared to their hard working counterparts in the poorer countries. There is also the psychological angle as well, as many people have a innate need to feel useful contributors to their society, if people are giving a low income and no purpose or function within society, then the social impacts could be negative rather than positive. Capitalism continues to evolve, and the universal income will be a great argument in favour of capitalism as it shows how capitalism looks after everyone. youtube/watch?v=ExRs75isitw
