Dorothy Squires sings The Gibraltar Anthem (known locally as Rock of Ages) at her hugely successful one-woman show at the London Palladium on 6th December 1970. A couple of weeks before the concert, Dot was invited to Gibraltar to sing this stirring Anthem for the first time at the first international Gibraltar Song Festival. The Festival was held in the stunning St Michaels Cave and received a tumultuous reception from a wildly enthusiastic audience. Dot had to sing it three times that night and repeated it at her Palladium concert with great success. ROCK OF AGES was written for the 1969 Gibraltar Song Festival in a bid to boost morale at a time when General Franco isolated Gibraltar from the world by closing the land border between Gibraltar and Spain(not fully re-opened until 1985) as punishment on the Gibraltarians for expressing their wishes to remain British in the referendum of 67. https://youtube/watch?v=9AZQslLHQwE
