EDITORIAL REYNALDO CERVANTES – PUBLISHER MITOTE NEWSLETTER Jean Stothert was sworn as Mayor last night – With the help of the Lord and all good people of Omaha I believe Mayor Stothert will restore faith in a city government that has a tendency to pick winners and losers which ultimately undermines our sense of unity. Through her tough but fair and open minded leadership I am confident she will find a way for all of us to work together and move Omaha forward. She has said that party politics will not inform or necessarily instruct her as she leads our great city and promises to serve the citizens, not ideology, nor party. She will work with everybody. She is already asking for a full assessment of all city departments and will be relying on outcomes and hold each Office Director accountable for benchmarks to be determined. This is reasonable in its approach and implementation. Moreover, she has already stated publicly what she expects and based on the facts, what she is prepared to do. Further, Mayor Stothert in my humble opinion is sending out a loud and clear message that things are going to change at city hall but she needs our help. Her declaration of her vision and strong commitment to accomplish them speaks volumes of what we have in store for us as opposed to any specific policies at this time. She is already demonstrating this change by asking the City Council to cut her salary as well as her staff and the little duce coup she will be driving herself – I don’t believe she ran for Mayor just to get a job or keep a job and more importantly she is willing to lose that job by asking us to not only help her but to hold her feet to the fire all along the way by holding her accountable.
