Education authorities in Adigea plan expanded education in the Circassian language in republican pre-schools and kindergartens starting this scholastic year According to new legislation enacted by the Parliament of Adigea, all pre-schools and kindergartens in Adigea now have the right to employ Circassian language teaching staff to educate children in the national language. Appropriate amendments to the Education Law of the Republic of Adigea were made in March 2013 at a session of the Legislative Assembly of the Adigean Republic to enable education authorities to offer education in the Circassian language at the pre-school level and employ/deploy the necessary staff to effect this. "Introduction of this provision will help to ensure the accessibility to educational services, improve their quality, and promote Circassian language education at this crucial level of language learning," said Anzaur Kerasha (Kerashev), Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Media and Youth of the Parliament of Adigea. At present, of the 125 pre-school institutions in the Republic, only in 42 are teaching and educational work held in the two official languages of the Republic -- Russian and Circassian. In all the others, Russian is the exclusive language of education. Now, thanks to the adoption of amendments to the Education Law of the Republic of Adigea, Republican pre-school institutions will be able to employ Circassian language teaching staff to educate the young ones in Circassian, according to the expert at the Republican Ministry of Education and Science, Sarah Sitimova. In principle, the Law on Languages of the Republic of Adigea provides a solid basis to create the necessary conditions for the preservation and development of the Circassian language, and hence promotion of Circassian national identity, and in theory offers equitable development for both Circassian and Russian. Nevertheless, the gradual degradation in the status of Circassian in the Republic means that extra effort should be made to solidify education in Circassian at all levels, right up to post-graduate research. In addition, Circassian children should be made to feel proud of their national language, and parents should be encouraged to choose Circassian as the language of education for their offspring whenever possible, knowing that parental choice of the language of education tends to favour Russian, to the detriment of the Circassian language. tass-press.ru/c120/297670.html
