A new study published as a research letter in the journal JAMA Dermatology discussed the risk of squamous cell cancer in the hands due to the use of the UVA lights in nail salon. The lights are used to dry or harden nails. The amount of UV light coming out of the drying devices can cause DNA damage which can lead to skin cancer. Study Suggestions: 1.) Coat skin with sunscreen before having a gel manicure or pedicure 2.) Wear UV protection gloves with just the fingernails exposed. 3.)Users of regular polish- fan or air dry
