Experiencing eternity leaves us feeling, in the words of C. S. Lewis in his classic book Mere Christianity, “The infinite relief of having for once got rid of all the silly nonsense about your own dignity which has made you restless and unhappy all your life.” Transcendence offers a healthy dose of insignificance to a race whose root sin is pride. We need to be brought down to our proper proportion before an awesome God. It is a wonderful, freeing discovery.
