*** FITNESS TIP *** Would you be motivated to get in shape if you had some money on the line? Well there are several studies that show just that. The Mayo Clinic did a study using financial incentives to help people lose weight. The results showed that people are much more motivated to shed some pounds when there’s a possibility of earning or even losing modest quantities of cash. In fact, “The 4-Hour Body” discusses another study done at the Center for Experimental Social Science at New York University, in which fear of loss actually out weighed the benefits. There were three groups in the experiment. The first group received $15 and was told the $15 would be taken back if they lost a subsequent auction. The second group was told that they’d be given $15 if they won the auction. The third group was given no incentive. They found that the first group overbid the most. I can definitely say that I would be much MORE motivated if I would have to pay money out!! Psychology is fascinating!!
