FRANKSTON, VIC Median price: $360,000 (H); $288,000 (U) Location: South Melbourne Population: 34,457 Anyone who turns their nose up upon hearing ‘Frankston’ should do themselves a favour and take a trip there and check it out, says property educator Peter Koulizos. He notes that the suburb has had a stigma, but it’s changing, with plenty happening, especially along the foreshore. Frankston, known as the ‘gateway to the Mornington Peninsula’, is located 40 kilometres from Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay. It’s important to differentiate between Frankston North and Frankston, says Koulizos; the two are very different with the latter being more attractive and Frankston South being better again. Frankston is cheap for a beachside suburb and will become more appealing when traffic congestion is eased with the completion of the Frankston Bypass. While Frankston hasn’t improved as much as Koulizos thought it would by this stage, he still believes it’s worthy of inclusion in the Hot 100 because he’s confident it’ll come good.
