Family gatherings are very uncomfortable for the narcissist, cause they cant be the center of attention, and they cant play their mind games undetected with the people around them. They also often are loathe to recognize their significant other with any kind of thoughtful present, since that is not part of their MO of demeaning, and dehumanizing her.(Oscar Pistorius had no Valentines Day present for Reeva Steenkamp) Besides, the attention they get from throwing a fit or otherwise causing drama at special times like Christmas causes them to be smack center of attention again. Its killing two birds with one stone: 1. Causing the drama gives them the attention they crave 2. Having an excuse to Withdraw from the special occasion, helps them avoid having to mingle with the commoners, for such a mundane celebration that they feel they are far too superior for.
