Feeling distinctly dis-enchanted with China, after first starting buying stock out of there nearly 9 years ago the appeal has worn off! I spent 7 hours in Shenzhen yesterday just to pick up custom artwork from the painting village that I ordered for an exhibition in 2 weeks time. Firstly they had gone cheap on the material and quality so it was a total waste of time coming to Shenzhen and to rub salt in the wound the driver and car used to cost $50 for a day now costs $150! The western clothing markets I like to buy clothes in now sell jeans and shoes for much the same price as we would buy in sales in shops in Australia and they now look like all knockoffs! I cut back our buying about 4 years ago out of China and prices have doubled since then! I will do everything I can now to avoid having to buy anything there in the future. What i found was particularly scabby was on the ferry they charged nearly $20 for having 1 suitcase as luggage which was too big to carry through immigration so it had to go in the boat luggage section!
