Finished watching the final season of Boardwalk Empire. This series, what a show. A show much like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, something thats been done wonderfully in film and doing it on TV. A Prohibition-era gangster TV series. Like a zombie TV show, it just makes sense. The final moment of this series is pure genius. And one of the all time How did I not see this coming? moments. The Wire and The Sopranos didnt have endings as good as this. A great full circle moment. Every character who does leave the show, every one of them got a spectacular ending from season 1 to now. And in the end, its insane how many amazing characters this show had, both fictional and historic. As with The Sopranos, Terrence Winter had a hand in crafting a hell of an ensemble. Jimmy Darmody, Chalky White, Manny Horvitz, Eli Thompson, Narcisse, Owen Sleater, Dunn Purnsley. And my favorites, Nelson Van Alden, holy shit does he have a great final scene. Michael Shannon stealing every frame hes in. I AM relaxed. And Richard Harrow, the hitman character I wish was in every crime show. Hes enough reason to watch the show. STILL pissed the @#$% off that Arnold Rothstein was cheated out of a final scene. A 2 minute flashback was all I wanted, Winter. All I @#$%ing wanted. One thing I love is the historic gangster characters that survive, they dont end their stories. Cuz theyre not over. Theres enough movies made about them that tell their final stories. You want the rest of the Capone story, watch The Untouchables. You want the rest of the Benjamin Siegel story, watch Bugsy and so on. And like any great finale, first thing I want to do after the finale......... start right over. Boardwalk Empire. Another home run by HBO.
