For anyone who hasnt seen Roz and the Rice Cakes live Id urge you to do so. There probably isnt much left I can say that hasnt been said a hundred times before by countless others. Ive seen them a few times now and every time I am in awe over the level of talent and creativity. Its an experience like no other. Roz Raskins passion on stage is infectious. She had just about everyone in the room on their feet moving and then the introverts like me standing there taking it all in. She just radiates when shes up on that stage. Justin Foster on bass is simply ridiculous. I dont have words to describe his level of skill. Same exact thing can be said for Casey Warren on drums. Whether its watching them hold it down or break into an almost animalistic jam your eyes dont know where to focus. If you watch one for a few seconds you feel like youre missing something amazing from the other. I actually had to re-position myself to make sure I had all three in my line of sight. Last nights show was at The Columbus Recording Co., which is above Columbus Theatre. A place that truly fosters a creative and inclusive environment. For the uninitiated think AS220 or The Spot Underground. Places where creative people come together as family. (They even let me in) It was inspiring and an honor to be among so many wonderfully talented and creative folks who all care so passionately about the arts. Erica Sutherland of Littlefoot kicked off the show. I made it just about halfway through her set. Unfortunately, timing the commute from Fall River with a Duguay stop in Cranston is not an exact science. But I walked in to what sounded like a choir of angels. Ericas voice was soaring through that room. It was simply beautiful. All I know is I need more nights like last night.
