For the first time in more than twelve years, when the school year - TopicsExpress

For the first time in more than twelve years, when the school year starts at Spring Lake High School, I will not be one of the teachers anxiously awaiting a new group of students. I resigned my teaching position yesterday after accepting a position through our local ISD working as a student mentor in its Early College program. To say that I have loved my job over the years is a vast understatement. I was lucky to have worked with colleagues who were also friends and to have taught students who inspired and challenged me on a daily basis and often opened their hearts to me and trusted me with their thoughts, hopes, and fears. Needless to say, this decision did not come lightly. I am so thrilled about my new position, though. It will offer me the flexibility to be more available for my family and will allow me to work one on one with students from all over the county as they participate in the program, which lasts for three years. This opportunity to work one on one with students -and to be with them for three years- was the biggest draw for me. Leaving education was never - and will never be - my goal. At this point in my career and life, though, this move is the right one for me and my family. I am so thankful for the relationships that I developed with my colleagues and my students and will always look back fondly on my time at SLHS.
