For those of you who AI, when do you inseminate the doe? How do you judge when heat begins? Here are three scenarios: 1) Doe is barely wagging in the evening, not even glancing at the buck, but in the morning is screaming and wanting to get in the buck pen. 2) Doe shows no sign whatsoever in the evening, but in the morning is screaming and wanting to get into the buck pen. 3) Doe has been AI’d in the evening but the next morning she’s still screaming and wanting to get into the buck pen. This has been a real learning year for me. AI’d 2 does, neither settled. The first one was bred again and I don’t know if she’s settled or not, the other is still in standing heat after AI yesterday around 5:00pm. Since ovulation takes place hours AFTER the doe is no longer receptive to the buck, Im thinking we jumped the gun again. I think weve been two early on my goats and my friends, and I want to AI again this morning, but I need to get a better feel for the future. AI is really teaching me how much I do not notice and do not know about my does cycles.
