For what it’s worth, or not, I wanted to share my vote for the - TopicsExpress

For what it’s worth, or not, I wanted to share my vote for the Sheriffs office. Without getting too lengthy, the Sheriff is arguably the most important political figure in the county and is the one charged by the people to protect the rights of the people; hence my email at singling out this office. I dont subscribe to the belief of let the best man/woman win”, as it should be, let the most qualified man/woman win”. Likewise, I don’t believe any person should be voted into office based on political party, city boundaries, ward boundaries, or familial relations. Voting someone into office based solely on these criteria is not a proper use of our agency or intellect. I feel that I have vetted both candidates running for Sheriff heavily. I have been in Mikes living room and Doug has been in mine, where I have asked them both direct questions. I have seen them both in personal, and public, settings. They both carry great qualities but when it comes down to the most qualified candidate for Juab County Sheriff, it is Doug Anderson. I have also watched both candidates closely and when you take everything into account i.e., how the individual campaigns are being run, public relations, department relations, total experience, and a willingness to professionally lead the Sheriffs department and be held accountable; it’s clearly Doug Anderson who should be the next Sheriff. Allow me to share a couple of recommendations below and specific areas that demonstrate Doug’s abilities. Doug Anderson worked as Lieutenant/Manager at the Utah Department of Public Safety, Criminal Identification Bureau, and was given charge to supervise Utahs concealed firearm program. The main proponent that Doug worked with was Republican Representative, Curtis Oda (who is arguably the biggest proponent of our second amendment right to keep and bear arms in the Utah Legislature). Representative Oda maintained complete oversight on Dougs management of the program and this is the following recommendation that he extended about Doug’s work performance. Dear Voters, It is with great pleasure that I extend recommendation to a great friend, Doug Anderson. I first met Doug when he was assigned as a newly appointed manager at the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification of the Utah Department of Public Safety. He was given charge to manage and regulate various programs, one of which that I am very passionate about is Utah’s concealed firearm program. As a state representative, concealed firearm instructor, and the strongest legislative proponent for law abiding citizens’ right to bear arms, I want you to know that Doug possesses the same passions. He was great to work with, was fiscally wise with taxpayer dollars and administered proper oversight with his personnel and resources. As a state representative, I had the ultimate oversight of the curriculum to ensure that Doug met all the required statutory guidelines, that training guidelines were properly administered and legal concepts properly interpreted. Working together, Utahs permit has become the number one most recognized permit in the U.S. State law required the Bureau of Criminal of Identification to provide annual status report to the state legislature. Doug was very thorough with his report and able to answer any questions posed to him. Doug will excel in any leadership position with honesty and integrity and passion. Sincerely, Republican Representative Curtis Oda As the program manager over Utahs concealed firearm program, Doug also worked closely with the Utah Shooting Sports Council (U.S.S.C.) in assisting them as they sought positive changes to the concealed firearm carry laws. Doug worked closely with the chairman of the board, Clark Aposhian. Please see the following recommendation submitted by Mr. Aposhian regarding Dougs work and management performance. To the Voters of Juab County: My name is Clark Aposhian. I am currently the longest serving member and former Chairman of Utah’s concealed firearm review and advisory board of which I have been an affiliate for approximately 12 years. I am also chairman for the board of directors of the Utah Shooting Sports Council, which is a non-profit coalition organization of individuals and groups dedicated to the preservation, protection and defense of the individual right of all Utahns to keep and bear their private arms for security and defense of self, family, others, property, the state, and all other lawful purposes. I am a registered lobbyist for this group and have lobbied for gun rights in Utah since 1995. I have had both the pleasure, and peace of mind, working with Doug Anderson while he was assigned as the program manager over Utah’s concealed firearm program under the Utah Department of Public Safety, Criminal Identification Bureau. I would like to note that Doug is a strong supporter of the U.S. constitution, namely the specific protections under the second amendment. Doug was given statutory charge to ensure proper training, certification and management of certified firearm instructors nationwide. As the chairman of the board and firearm lobbyist, I also played an active part in helping to maintain the integrity of that program. Let me express that Doug Anderson managed this program with the highest degree of integrity I have seen. It is in no small part because of Doug Andersons leadership and commitment to the 2nd Amendment that Utah has the best concealed Firearm Permit system in the United States. I would always enjoy the comments I would get from Concealed Permit applicants and instructors as to how well organized and efficient the Utah Bureaus concealed permit division was run. Make no mistake, this was due to Doug Andersons involvement in the program. Doug Anderson worked very well with me as the Utah Shooting Sports Council sought changes in concealed carry permit laws. He was always honest, open and above board in all his dealings with us. He represented his agency exceedingly well at the Utah State Legislature working many hours with lawmakers to help craft excellent concealed carry Permit laws. Doug’s position necessitated that he network and function with a variety of influential bodies, i.e. Federal Bureau Investigations, (F.B.I.), Utah State Legislature, State Attorney General’s office, National Rifle Association (N.R.A.) Utah Shooting Sports Council (U.S.S.C), and the Utah Department of Public Safety generally. It is my professional opinion that Doug was positive and professional in this role and I am pleased to join with others as well as legislators to highly recommend him for any public safety management position. Clark Aposhian, Utah Shooting Sports Council If you have any questions, or would like clarification on my choice, please feel free to contact me anytime. Please vote on November 4th, and vote who you believe is the most qualified.
