From Doug Terry on bike riding: No one knows, on a scientific level, what the body is capable of past 50 or 55. Dont give up biking, thinking its time. The only way to find out what you can do is to take off and do it. Would you rather die of a heart attack at 62 or in some semi-frozen state of presumed old age decrepitude ten years later, having done not much of anything but contemplate the past and wear new depression marks in the couch? Your choice. As for hopping over rocks and fallen trees, get a long distance two-way radio (they have ranges from 20 to 30 miles now and they sometimes go farther, just ask the person who was rescued by helicopter out west when actor Harrison Ford picked up his distress call from 50 or 60 miles away). Test the radio out and see how far you want to trust it. Then, take a chance. There is nothing else to do in life than to let the line out and see if you can reel it back in. Chances are, youll make it.As for hopping over rocks and fallen trees, get a long distance two-way radio (they have ranges from 20 to 30 miles now and they sometimes go farther, just ask the person who was rescued by helicopter out west when actor Harrison Ford picked up his distress call from 50 or 60 miles away). Chances are, youll make it. Longer distance biking is, for me, a form of moving meditation. It replaces, in a different way, the long distance running mediation of earlier yrs. Since I, too, almost always ride alone, I am content in the knowledge that no one will ever know what I see and what I go through out on the long rides. There are wonders to behold, but you have to find them for yourself. The suffering up mountain roads, the joy of being out in the rain (after getting over being upset), the burst of speed even after miles of riding, those are mine. Find yours.
