From last month I know, but I should be interested in learning the groups stance on your students (or students) union passing a motion condemning the Students Rights advocacy group. It has links to a primarily neoconservative think-tank called the Henry Jackson Society. Students Rights have been relatively active in opposing students; union led censorship cases, such as the Blasphemous Pineapple depicting the Prophet Muhammed, which Readings Atheist Society fielded in 2012. Here in Nottingham, our Students Union (who since yesterday have now seen it fit to ban the Sun and the Star from their shop) have criticised this organisation also. The Tab of Nottingham approached members from the Islamic Society and the LGBT Network, to write an article on allegations that speakers from the Islamic society had been hostile in places to LGBT rights. Our representatives in the Students Union did not seem to like this, and criticised the Tab for taking allegations from the Students Rights group. I cant stop thinking though would one reason for the disdain of this group, be the fact that LSEs, Nottinghams, UCL and other unions, feel threatened by any individual or organisation which opposes their dictates? After all, I have learnt to see Students Unions across the country as training grounds for career politicians, and not organisations which truly represent us. Any thoughts. huffingtonpost.co.uk/mohamed-harrath/lse-students-union-slams-controversial-student-rights-group_b_4827041.html
