From our President, Barbara Newhouse: In addition to all of the good news around the Ice Bucket Challenge, I am writing to share with you that we have just been informed by CharityWatch that the ALS Association has met the stringent standards for financial efficiency and accountability to qualify for a listing as a Top Rated charity on CharityWatch.org . Here is the language from the email correspondence that we received: Of the nearly 600 charities that CharityWatch currently rates, only a select few qualify as Top-Rated, which requires that the charity spends 75% or more of their budgets on programs, spends $25 or less to raise $100 in public support, does not hold excessive assets in reserve, and discloses basic financial information and documents to CharityWatch. We congratulate you on your Top-Rated status, and encourage you to publicize your status as a financially efficient charity with the new CharityWatch Seal on your website and print materials. A big thank you goes to our wonderful Finance Committee for their ever watchful eye and to our Finance Staff who makes sure that all of us are staying on our toes when it comes to revenues and expenses.
