From our mailbag The Ohio Education Association unanimously - TopicsExpress

From our mailbag The Ohio Education Association unanimously endorsed Ed FitzGerald for Governor over the weekend. Ohio Education Association President Becky Higgins had this to say: “Ed FitzGerald has demonstrated a thorough and impressive command of the issues and challenges that face Ohio’s public schools and their students. If elected, we believe he has the vision and the leadership needed to make our public schools, our system of higher education and our programs for the developmentally disabled in Ohio that much better. Educators, students, parents and the communities in which they live will be well-served by the election of Ed FitzGerald. As Governor, he would take the state in a new and more promising direction – away from the current trend to privatize public education – and toward more equitable and sustained state support of local public education.” In a separate email, heres the response from the fitzGerald camp: “I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the over 121,000 teachers and education professionals represented by the Ohio Education Association. Educating our children is the single greatest investment we can make in the future and in building a strong middle class – it is the foundation on which the dreams we have for our children is built. The choice in this election is clear: between a status quo that rewards wealth at the expense of public schools, and fighting to level the playing field for middle-class families so that students and teachers have the tools they need to succeed here in Ohio. I am proud to stand with Ohio’s teachers and education professionals, and the students they serve.
