GIVING WORSHIP! Worship is not a passive thing. Worship is action! Worship is an act of GIVING! Someone has said, “A Christian uses three books in worship: his Bible, the songbook, and his pocket-book.” [source: bulletin clipping] Each of these is an act of worship; reflecting God’s “worth-ship” to us. Each of these is also connected to an act of GIVING. [1] As we read God’s Word we are to GIVE HIM OUR EAR. Through our attentiveness to God’s teachings we reveal the worth His wisdom has to us. How much time we spend reading and studying the Bible shows the amount of interest we have in following God’s Will. [2] As we sing we are GIVING HIM HEARTFELT PRAISE! Through the singing of hymns of glory and praise we GIVE God the honor due Him by way of the fruit of our lips. [3] GIVING OF OUR MEANS is also an act of worship as we focus on thanksgiving for God’s abundant provision in our lives. Our generosity and willingness to GIVE money to God’s work should in some way reflect our appreciation for his generosity toward us. In Revelation, John recorded these words. . . “(6) Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. (7) And he said with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and GIVE HIM GLORY, because the hour of his judgment has come, AND WORSHIP HIM who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.’” (Revelation 14:6-7 ESV) May our heart be open so that as we open these books the proper worship will be GIVEN!
