“GOD SO LOVED” The most familiar scripture in the Bible is John 3:16. It is one of the first scriptures we learn as a child. It speaks of the great love that God had for us in that He gave His beloved Son to die for us. The word “Love” as used here is unique. There are four words in the Greek language for love. One is erao, and it is used in reference to passion love, whether good or bad, according to the context. Another is stergo, which is used for natural love—as a parent for a child. Then, there is the word phileo, which calls a love from the heart by the pleasure one takes in the beloved object. Now, these three terms are not employed when speaking of Gods love in the verse for the souls of men. The fourth word, and the one used in the text, is agapao. This is the word called out for the preciousness of the object loved. This is the word used over and over in reference to God’s love. Mans spirit was given him by His maker. We are a part of God. Man is the only creature on earth of which this is said. God desires our salvation out of His great love. Though marred by sin, God still loves man and desires mans eternal spirit to be with Him in eternity, therefore, Christ was sent to redeem us. Folks, here is the major point, the devil did his thing. He hates God and is ever trying to destroy the good. Everything that is bad and disgusting, the devil is for. He does not have any care for us. He could care less for us. His only desire is to uproot any good done by God. Man is the “crown” of God’s creation on earth. The devil works on us because he hates God and all God stands for, but God is love (I John 4:16). Dont think for a moment that the devil loves you! He doesnt know the meaning of true love. He deceives. He destroys. It is God who gives life and gives it more abundantly (John 10:10). “For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”—John 3:16 Come To Christ!
