Gen 13:1-13.1 3 Ways to Settle/Avoid Quarrel/Disputes Abraham portrayed ways of settling quarrel in our reading today. These can as well help us live in peace with people around us: (1) Dialogue: When Abram discovered there was quarrel he called his nephew and dialogued with him to seek solution to the problem (vs.8). So if we have issue with someone, we can set out to dialogue with the person, putting into consideration the time and nature of the person involved. When the person is approached at the wrong time, it can worsen the whole issue. (3) Admit defeat/Give up your right: Abraham had every right to choose the best land but for peace to reign he gave up his right and asked Lot to choose first. There are some occasions that we need to be silence even when we know we are right to give peace way. (2) Respect other peoples boundaries: Eventually, they parted ways and there was gap between them for peace to reign. Imaginary boundaries exist in every relationship (family, friendship, etc). This is a point where one person is not willing to let others into what he/she is feeling/passing through or a kind of secret, for a reason best known to the person involved. Trying to break that boundary uninvited will surely spring up conflicts.
