Goliath just took a swing at David. The FEC filed a lawsuit against me based on the politically motivated false complaint that CREW filed during my 2010 campaign. Some people are trying to make an issue out of the fact that I did not take the FEC’s offer to settle with them to prevent this from going to court. Yet, by settling with them I would have had to concede I was guilty for something I did not do. Over the past year, evidence has emerged that the federal government has no problem abusing its power for political purposes. Just two days ago, former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson filed a $35 million lawsuit against the Justice Department for illegal surveillance; she is claiming the Obama administration hacked her computers while she was reporting about various Obama administration scandals. It doesnt matter if youre liberal, conservative, Republican or Democrat, or even a member of the media - abuse of government power affects us all. Its time to fight back, and that is what I am doing. This past year we’ve seen evidence emerge that shows the FEC and IRS coordinated to target the political opponents of this Administration. Whether it is abuse at the IRS, the FEC, or the Department of Justice, this administration is repeatedly abusing its power to bully everyday Americans out of the political process, or target them for payback. I am confident that as we proceed with this legal matter, more evidence of abuse of government power will be exposed. Im grateful for the opportunity to stand up to Goliath and have the chance to expose whats really going on.
