Good Monday Morning. Its time once again to remind everyone to vote for Student Charities! Also, for those of you who might have misunderstood: this is not a request for donations, just votes. It costs you nothing to support this very important cause! As many of you know, my wife Karen coordinates the Leander ISD backpack program; the program provides food to children in LISD who normally only eat when at school. She could really use your help. The LISD Backpack food program sends home over 230 backpacks of food each week, and we have served over 22,000 backpacks over the last five years. The Backpack Food Program is dependent entirely on donations, allowing many individuals and organizations the opportunity to help the children in our school district. Student Charities is the non-profit organization Karen started that supports the backpack program, and coordinates the donations of food and funds. Student Charities was recognized by the Recognize Good organization back in August 2014 with a donation of $1000. As a result, they have the opportunity to participate in a contest organized by Recognize Good’s Say Thanks Austin Program. This is fundamentally a popularity contest, and the prize money would go toward funding the future of the backpack program. There are multiple ways to vote, and individuals may vote for Student Charities in six ways every day from Jan. 5 to Jan. 30th. Additional details on the contest and the voting are available at RecognizeGood.org. The voting methods are listed on both the attached flyer, as well as the website, but basically you can tweet, text, vote on the web (at recognizegood.org/legend/karen-faulkner/), message on Facebook, email and write in on the form. On the form, a single individual can vote for them on each day by signing and printing their names in each date slot provided. Once the form is printed out and completed, please return them to me (original forms, no photocopying allowed). There is no age limit to voting, so children can become involved as well. First prize is $10,000 which would fund the weekly backpack program for an entire year. Please pass this along to all of your family and friends, because each vote on each day matters. Last years Say Thanks Austin winner received over 50,000 votes, so we need everyone’s help! Please vote each day and contact me with any questions.
