Good morning everyone and Happy New Year. It hasnt been the best start to the year for me, as my handbag was stolen in Thames on our way back home. Not only do I have the bother of now having no drivers license, credit card, eftpos card, library card, AA, Flybuys etc etc etc... the loss of my phone also means the loss of countless writing notes, including many scenes for my next two books and a huge number of random ideas and dialogue for future novels (some of which came to me at the RWNZ conference). I only cried about this whole thing when I realised about the loss of my writing. I was inconsolable. I find myself going over all the decisions I made that day and the weeks leading up to it and wishing Id done any number of things differently so that my bag didnt disappear or that Id backed up my notes. I even added some stuff a few days before and could have emailed a whole lot of stuff to myself. I wish I had a time machine! The frustrating thing is I tried to set up the Cloud back-up thing a few weeks ago but I couldnt figure out how. If Id only managed to do that, I could have had GPS tracking active on my phone so the police would know where it is, AND I wouldnt have lost any of the above. I do have an iTunes back-up but that would have been almost a year ago. And I cant do anything about replacing the phone until I go back to work. Its amazing how much you depend on them now - for everything from your watch/alarm clock to your music/entertainment to the way everyone communicates with you. This half of my holiday I am feeling heavy and just yucky inside. I know there are worse things going on in the world but this is a personal tragedy for me!
