Good morning from Myanmar. My first full day here included a visit - TopicsExpress

Good morning from Myanmar. My first full day here included a visit to the Mary Chapman Deaf School. I had a wonderful conversation with the headmistress, Daw Nyunt Thein, and then was able to preach for 90 minutes +/- to about thirty-five middle school Deaf children. Some of the kids in the back of the room were so interested that they literally stood on their chairs for much of that time in order to see well enough. The headmistress wants to meet with me again. I was able to learn a few words in Burmese sign language along the way from the Deaf kids. This always proves helpful! In the afternoon, I met with a small group of deaf people, and a hearing coordinator, who have been working for 2 to 3 years on a Bible story project, supported by DOOR. One of the most interesting things I found out in this meeting was that everyone involved in the project attends the Harvester Deaf Baptist Church, which was started by Samuel Thom. Samuel is the man who came to India for SWMI training, TWICE, then returned to Myanmar, resigned his position from the Bible College, and began working with the Deaf. Samuel personally led at least two of the six Deaf, who are on the Bible Story team, to the Lord. What a thrill for me to see the impact SWMI has already made on the Deaf of Myanmar! I was able to learn quite a few more Burmese signs in this afternoon meeting! This will really help as I speak for 5-6 hours on Saturday and then more on Sunday to the Deaf. Thank you for your prayers. I will need them again today as I preach to a group of Bible College students and also to the Deaf tonight. God bless you all.
