Grafton-Inverell is on this weekend and the Mike Stout Bayview - TopicsExpress

Grafton-Inverell is on this weekend and the Mike Stout Bayview Training Group sincerely wishes every Gold Coast rider competing in the Classic Road Race every success and personal achievement. It also provides us with a wonderful opportunity. Given that many participants in Saturdays Grafton-Inverell would prefer a few days of tapering between now and the big day, its an excellent chance to perform a familiarity run on the proposed new Turbo course. After all, its the end of the road season and you dont have to ride flat out 52 weeks of the year. Tomorrow wed like to introduce the Gold Coast cycling community to the new proposed Turbo course at a reduced maximum pace of 40 kph. Key MSBTG personnel will direct the field at key turning points. The photo below is a map of the proposed A Grade course and thats what well be taking tomorrow. From the two bridges and onwards onto Hope Island, both grades share the same route. At the start, well be stopping the entire field at Caffene Break, hopefully for no longer than 1 minute. A quick show of hands will ascertain how many people are NOT familiar with the proposed changes, and if required well explain the route before leaving. Were convinced youre going to love the new Turbo Thursday course. Its faster and safer with only 7 sets of lights over the 41km, and thats worst case scenario. There are 3 sections over 9 km in length which have uninterrupted runs, one of which is 14km. 90% of the course has dedicated bike lanes. We recognise some of you have tight time limits, so tomorrow and tomorrow only, well be skipping Santa Barbara so we can do the ride at familiarity pace and still get back to the finish at the same time as normal. We really think youll love this course, but youll never know if you never give it a try. If we receive overwhelming feedback that youd prefer to dice with death and all the double bogey trucks up Brisbane Rd, then well cop that sweet and go back to the original course.
