HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MARY KAY!!!! 51 Years today :-) In the Applause magazine (1988) there was an interview with Mary Kay Ash. I thought you might enjoy learning more about the woman behind the business along with a few other company highlights from the early days ... especially for those who never had the opportunity to meet Mary Kay. Enjoy!! 1988 Interview with Mar Kay Ash: APPLAUSE: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? MARY KAY: I would be thinner. APPLAUSE: What do you do when youre nervous? MARY KAY: / work harder. APPLAUSE: Which three people, past or present, would you invite to a fantasy dinner party? MARY KAY: Jesus and President and Mrs. Reagan APPLAUSE: Who is your favorite comedian? MARY KAY Phyllis Diller (when shes” clean”) APPLAUSE: What is your all time favorite television show? MARY KAY Hawaii 5-O APPLAUSE: What arc your most prized material possessions? MARY KAY: I would say my Company, my home and the first ring Mel (Ash), my late husband, ever gave me. APPLAUSE: What do you consider to be your worst habit? MARY KAY: Im too meticulous. APPLAUSE: What is your favorite type of food? MARY KAY: Mexican food. APPLAUSE: Of all the places youve traveled, which is your favorite? MARY KAY: Venice. APPLAUSE: What was your most embarrassing moment? MARY KAY: When my children were young, I noticed in church one Sunday that Ben, one of my sons, was behaving unusually well. He was sitting very still next to me, and, naturally, I was delighted that for once he was being a little angel. . . until there was the most horrible sound you ever heard. I looked down to find that he had unscrewed his seat and was on the floor, seat and all. I was horrified, and as I reached down to pick him up (a little too harshly, as mothers sometimes do), he said in a loud voice, Dont pinch me! APPLAUSE: Who has been your favorite interviewer? MARY KAY: Morley Safer during the CBS 60 Minutes interview. He had done his homework and knew just the questions to ask. APPLAUSE: What do you most enjoy doing in your spare time? MARY KAY: Whenever 1 can, which is not very often, I like to curl up with a good book, usually a mystery novel. APPLAUSE: What kitchen appliance do you use the most? MARY KAY: The microwave. I dont know how we got along without them. APPLAUSE: Is there anything you havent done that you would like to do? MARY KAY: Id like to go back to the antique market in Paris, and visit Venice and Rome again. APPLAUSE: Who gave you the best advice you ever received, and what was it? MARY KAY: My mother, because she always told me, You can do anything in the world that you want to do, if you want to do it badly enough and you are willing to pay the price. APPLAUSE: What is the most rewarding part of your job? MARY KAY: Helping inspire women to use their potential to become the best they can be. APPLAUSE: What is your favorite song? MARY KAY: How Great Thou Art. APPLAUSE: If you could choose your last meal, what would it be? MARY KAY: Lobster tails with drawn butter and French bread. APPLAUSE: What do you consider your best assets? MARY KAY: My skin and my eyes. APPLAUSE: Which Mary Kay fragrance is your favorite? MARY KAY: Its a toss-up between Genji® and Premonition. APPLAUSE: Who is your favorite movie star? MARY KAY: Sidney Poitier. APPLAUSE: What is your all-time favorite movie? MARY KAY: The Sound of Music” APPLAUSE: What is your favorite color? MARY KAY: Ive come to especially like a delicate pink, with blue as my second choice. APPLAUSE: If you had one wish, what would it be? MARY KAY: That Jesus would be pleased with me. APPLAUSE: If you could go back and change anything about your life, what would it be? MARY KAY: Id start Mary Kay Cosmetics earlier to give more women the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
