HEARING ON OBJECTIONS RAISED BY MNE [MAPUSA NAGRIKANCHO EKVOTT] AT THE MMC HALL, MAPUSA. MNE HAS RECORDED FOLLOWING OBJECTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS TO THE HEARING COMMITTEE OF THE MAPUSA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. 1. The circulated draft plan does not show the carrying capcity of the Mapusa Municipal Market. 2. Draft Plan is silent on the decongestion of the Market. 3. Flower Market building is sound in structure as well as having the heritage tag. It should not be demolished but can be superbly renovated from inside and outside. 4. Hawkers must be either shifted to the Hawkers market [ a new satelite market at Duler or outside the Mapusa Municipal Market with enhanced capacity as well as aesthetics and sanitation facilities. 5. Proposal to shift hawkers zone on top of the existing blocks within the market is unsound as the existing buildings may not take the additional load and could result in fatalities which must be avoided. This will not decongest the already congested market. 6. Internal roads in the Market must be free of congestion in order to guarantee safe movement of the Fire Fighting vehicles and equipment. The Chairperson has noted down all points in detail and has promised more interaction. MNE has thanked the Chairperson, Architect Sandeep Falari for his transparent way in handling the hearing, though public address system would have been appreciated so that the crowded hall could hear the proceedings.
