****** HISTORY ALERT 2 ****** November 18, 1900 Howard Thurman, theologian and first black to hold a full time teaching position at Boston University, is born. November 18, 1977 Robert Edward Chambliss, a former KKK member is convicted of first degree murder in connection with the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., that killed four African teenage women. November 18, 1980 Wally Famous Amoss signature panama hat and embroidered shirt are donated to the National Museum of American Historys Business Americana collection. It is the first memorabilia added to the collection by An African American entrepreneur and recognizes the achievement of Amos who built his company from a mom and pop enterprise to a $ 250 million cookie manufacturing business. Also elected for the first time were Barbara Jordan (Tex.) and Yvonne Brathwaite Burke (Calif.). Republican Senator Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts was overwhelmingly endorsed for a second term. November 17, 1842 Capture of George Latimer in Boston led to first of the fugitive slave cases which embittered North and South. Boston abolitionists raised money to purchase Latimer from his slaveholder.
