Living as a Christian and disciple of Christ, however, is a lifelong process of commitment and learning and growing closer to Him. The Bible calls this “growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Here are some guide-lines that will help you begin growing as a new Christian: part 1. Read the Bible daily The Bible is God’s inspired Word. Besides revealing the Good News about forgiveness and eternal life, it can also answer the many questions you will have as you try to live a life that pleases God. It will enable you to be “thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17) Think about what you read; study and analyze it. Pray for understanding. The Holy Spirit will help you. (Psalm 119:18), and you will begin to see life from God’s perspective. whenever you can talk to others about what you are learning. 2. Pray daily Talk with God often. Talk over your problems with Him. Let Him bear the weight of your troubles. (Matthew 11:28, 1 Peter 5:7) Praise and thank God for who He is and for what He has done for you. Admit your weakness. Confess each specific sin that you are aware of. Pray for others that they, too, may receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. 3. Obey the Guidance of the Holy Spirit God is actually three persons in one: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit actually lives within every true believer. (John14:16-17) The Bible says that the Holy Spirit, as He lives inside you, is your counselor, to help you understand the truth revealed in God’s Word. He will also guides you in all your decision making. When you want to do or make the right decisions, you will experience His peace in your mind and heart. But when you, however, wants to do the wrong thing or make the wrong decision, you will loose his peace and feels an uneasy feeling inside you. Let the peace of God rules in all you do or think. “The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26) The very moment you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and committed your life to Him, the Holy Spirit came to live inside your heart to: Teach you how to live and walk in His ways Guide you in changing into the image of Christ. Strengthen you in your times of need 4. Attend Church Gatherings Regularly When you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you began a relationship not only with Him but also with all other Christians. Whatever it meant to you in the past, going to church will now become a rich and rewarding experience. You will grow in understanding by hearing God’s Word preached and taught. You can ask questions and discuss Scripture with others. You will learn to Worship God, which means praising Him for all that He is and thanking Him for all that He has done. Learn to share your Testimony , Your Story about how your life was before you became a child of God and how it has been changed by God now! The Bible says that a truthful testimony can save lives. As you worship together, you will find individuals with whom you can form lasting friendships that will last for all eternity. Why do the Church Exist? To Praise and Worship God To Fellowship and Minister to one another To Evangelize; Inviting others to Christ 5.Baptism with Water Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death and burial of the old sinful creature and the resurrection of a new creature in Christ. Look Everything has become new. When people come to believe in Jesus, one of the first things they want to do is to be Baptist as a way of saying: “Now I am baptist into the body of Christ”. Now I belongs to Him. Jesus commanded His disciples in the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20) We are baptized because this is what Jesus has Instructed us to do. 6 Ask and Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit Jesus promised His disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and to the ends of the earth”. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from the indwelling of the Spirit . The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit we receive a the moment when we repented and are born again. Its function is to guide and lead us from the inside and enable us to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit as explained in Galatians 5-22. The more we obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, the more we are conformed to the image of our Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. It is One Spirit with two different functions. i) The first is the Spirit IN us, (the Indwelling) and is for our Character changing. ii) The second is the baptism of the same Spirit that comes OVER or UPON us with the evidence of speaking in tongues and is for the Empowerment for our service, or ministry to God and the church. According to the promise of Jesus, the first and most important reason for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is that we should be His witnesses to the world. Our first responsibility, after we have been born again, is to reach out to others who are still in sin, inviting them to the church in order to lead them Christ. Again, Welcome in the Family of God!
