Habib Umar al-Jaylani visits Germany and Austria Germany and Austria were honored to receive a visit from Habib Umar al-Jaylani, the Shafi Mufti of Makkah. In Germany, he delivered lectures in the universities of Osnabruck, Berlin, Frankfurt and Bochum. In Berlin, he taught a course in Imam al-Haddad’s ‘Good Manners.’ He then taught a course on the Prophetic Shama’il in the Austrian capital, Vienna. He was accompanied by Ustadh Mahmud Kellner, lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Osnabruck, who translated his words into German. His visit came at a time when Muslim communities in Europe are most in need of balanced traditional scholarship. He stressed the importance of bringing Muslims together and overcoming differences. He also talked a lot about the importance of Muslims in the West embodying good character and showing respect to people whatever their religious background is. He was impressed by the variety of Islamic activities taking place and he said that the Muslims should be grateful for these opportunities. He was happy to see so many young people who were raised in Europe who are seriously seeking Islamic knowledge. He encouraged them to seek Islamic knowledge without neglecting their secular education. May Allah accept Habib Umar’s visit and may it be a cause of guidance for the whole continent.
