Halloween is right around the corner, and for those of you lucky enough to access my FB, you are in for a haunted treat. I am posting 5 top haunts, and if they get good feed back I may post more. I hope you enjoy!! Top 5 Haunted/Creepy places you would die to visit. 1. Paris France Catacombs. One of the most romantic cities in the world, is also our top haunts on the list. When you are out dining, and showing your love how much you love them, why not take a trip down to the Catacombs of Paris, France. Here, you and your sweetheart will walk through a labrynth, built for the dead. As you navigate through the corridors, you will notice the walls are built with human remains. You will come face to face with Paris history, as eyeless faces stare back at you. Many visitors to the catacombs have witnessed full body appiritions, EVPs, or even captured the dead in a photo. Tour guides are available for this imfamous haunt, but many have traveled the darkened corridors alone never to be seen again. 2. New Orleans, Louisiana One of Americas oldest cities, New Orleans is renown for its music, food, and ghosts. It has made its way to the second spot on our list with its captivating history. New Orleans is a whole new world, even to many American citizens. Though some sights may seem familiar, churches, parades, or restaurants, New Orleans seems more like a European city than it does American. Sold to the United States in 1803 with the rest in the Louisiana Purchase, New Orleans continued to guard its way of life, another words, its deeply rooted Creole or native population along with their peculiar traditions. One of these traditions is the practice of Voodoo, an Earth based religion brought over by African Americans during New Orleans early settlement. New Orleans population grew, and as the living expanded, so did the deceased. Unable to properly bury their dead, the residents of New Orleans would bury recently deceased on top of older graves. Some cemeteries will have as many as 50 people buried one on top of the other. Of the most famous of these graves, would be the grave of, Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen. It is said, she walks the cemetery and blesses those whom pray, or give thanks, at her grave. Another hot spot for ghostly activity would be the Lalaurie House, where people have reported seeing, hearing, or even feeling the spirits of the tormented slaves. Sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you will even catch a glimpse of the Madam herself. 3. Hill of Crosses, Lithuania Nothing is more spiritual than a Holy Crusifix right? What about a hill where about 100,000 Crusifixs are erect? Our number three most haunted hot spot takes us to Lithuania, where you will find the Hill of Crosses. It is said that the first crosses to be placed here are from the family members of those whom have fallen during the rebellion in 1831. Visited by many tourists, including Pope John Paul II, this sight is more than what it seems. The sight itself, though awe inspiring, does feel a little creepy. If you come to lay a cross or show your respects, than you will be blessed, however, if you have come for some malicious reason, then you are in for a unexplainable surprise. Though no appiritions have been reported, yet, there are some things that happen here that just simply cannot be explained. 4. Evora, Portugal Not famous for its haunts, Portugal, being one of the oldest countries in the world, does have an intersting history. One of these interests, is the Chapel of Bones, which puts Portugal at number 4 on our list. Located in Evora, this chapel was erected by priests in the 16th century, where there were 43 cemeteries and land was a valuable commodity. Concerned about societies values, the priests decided to remove the bodies of the deceased and create a chapel from the remains. About 5,000 bodies make up the walls and pillars of this chapel, and the priests thought it would provide Evora, a wealthy town during this time, with a helpful way to meditate, and think about material things in the presence of death. Above the chapel door is carved a saying, Nós ossos que aqui estamos, pelos vossos esperamos, or: We bones that are here, for your bones we wait. Another poem written by Father Antonio da Ascencao, tells of the true intent of the Chapel. Where are you going in such a hurry traveler? Pause... do not advance your travel; You have no greater concern Than this one: that on which you focus your sight. Recall how many have passed from this world, Reflect on your similar end, There is good reason to reflect If only all did the same. Ponder, you so influenced by fate, Among all the many concerns of the world, So little do you reflect on death; If by chance you glance at this place, Stop... for the sake of your journey, The more you pause, the further on your journey you will be. A little much? If seeing all the bodies, the death, then reading those poems is too much for your living mind to bear, at the end of the day one can read the Latin phrases, I die in the light and The day that I die is better than the day that I was born. You probably will not see any paranormal activity here, but being in the presence of 5,000 placed bodies is more than enough. 5. The Sallie House Our next stop is Atchison, Kansas, where one of Americas most haunted houses is located, earning the fifth spot on our list. The Sallie House is like any other Midwestern home in America. Quaint, beautiful, and haunted, this house is notorious for its spirits. Many ghosts occupies this home, but one spirit in particular has made this location famous and her name is Sallie; a young girl who fell ill and whos mother rushed her to the towns doctor. At this time, the doctor lived in what is now known as The Sallie House. Unable to deaden the pain the little girl was feeling, the doctor began to operate. Sadly, she did not make it through the operation, and her spirit remains there to this day. There have been numerous eyewitness accounts from families that have lived in the home, visitors, and even neighbors. Many shadow figures have been seen, EVPs caught, and orbs of light. Physical manifestations in the form of a little girl have been seen, and assumed to be the infamous Sallie.
