Happy birthday to the still living sf grandmaster Robert - TopicsExpress

Happy birthday to the still living sf grandmaster Robert Silverberg. In an effort to boost his sales to help pay for his medical expenses (hes OLD) I highly recommend The Masks of Time ( a dystopia that looks quite tame in the event, although things werent this bad, or even that bad, fifteen heres ago, in a future that aint what it used to be) For those who DONT like sf, I recommend his Gilgamesh the King, and its more explicitly fantasy sequel, To the Land of the Living. His collaborations with Isaac Asimov, The Positronic Man and Nightfall, are worthy of Asimov (take that how you want) My personal second favorite is the New Wave classic, Dying Inside, (which, in an alternative world where Heinlein was cured of tuberculosis by a time traveling Proxmire in a successful attempt to destroy science fiction, as Seligs Complaint starts the interest in Spec Fic, leading to Lucas epic retellings of the pulp trash stories of his youth) Honorable mention to Downward to the Earth, a retelling of Heart of Darkness, in which the bimorphic alien life form(s) show more humanity than Conrad could give his Africans, to Hawksbill Station, a prison for anarcho-syndicalist in a future where the Stalinist won the second American Revolution, and The Time Hoppers. Dad loves the Marjipoor Chronicles, and so do millions, and since I am trying to get your money in Silverbergs pocket, I will mention it. Robin Williams put as much into this as Asimov. I give Robert 10% youtube/watch?v=REuNQvcN8tg
