Hebrews 8:10-12 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Today’s text is originally from Jeremiah 31, but brought to light again in Hebrews 8. When Jesus ate with His disciples, He mentioned a new covenant. It is this covenant, through the blood of Jesus, that fulfills scripture and traces back to the prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament. It is through the Holy Spirit of God that His law is placed in our minds, and written on our hearts. After Jesus was resurrected on the third day, He appears to His disciples to encourage them. He also assures them that He must return to His Father so that the Holy Spirit would be able to come. It is this newly fashioned, new covenant role of the Holy Spirit that accomplishes this truth. He is our seal in Christ Jesus and the trademark of our being grafted into right relationship with God. Not of our own power, but because of His unfailing Love.
