Hello guys. I will just share a new learnings that i learned from this hike that me and hope had yesterday. As an experience hiker i thougth that i already knew everything about the mountain, and i was wrong. With all the seven LNT rules of a mountaineer (leave no trace) i discover something that should have been included in the rules NEVER UNDERSTIMATE THE MOUNTAIN. Before our climb, i did a lot of research about Mt. Tarak Ridge. And according to the blogs, out of 9/9 difficulty it only have a 4/9 difficulty. Is a Day hike possible? Yes. According to the blog, a 9 to 10 hours day hike can be done with normal trekking. Before this climb hope already experience a 12 hours day hike when we attempted for a (trilogy) or 3 summits in one day. Yes, we did the Malarayat Ranges and successfully done it in a normal trekking mode. So with that experience i knew that a 9 to 10 hours day hike will be that easy to us. I was wrong. It took us 15 hours to finished the hike. The reason it took us that long is that, i never expected that the way from base camp (papaya river) to summit is about 70 degrees steep (maugat kc) making it a 1:30 hours 4x4 hike (4×4 means using both feet and arms) and that took us 3 hours to the summit. Actually thats the easy part. Going up is easy and going down is much more treaky and difficult doing it in 4x4. From summit to base camp took us 3 to 4 hrs just to go down. And from base camp to jump off is another 5 to 6 hours hike. Im so proud of my wife she did it, i never expected that this mountain with only 1130 MASL (meters above sea level) is only 4/9 difficulty. I already climb the 2nd and the 3rd highest peak here in the philippines and both reaching 2000+ MASL and tried almost all the mountain ranges here in Batangas, and most northern part of luzon. This is the first time that i encountered a 4/9 difficulty with that kind of terrain. If i were to rate its difficulty, for me its 7/9. Base on our experience. Salute to Hope! Daig nya mga 2 days camper.. you will hear Maam! Day hike ka? Wow ang galing nyo! Hehehe she will just smile not showing her knees is about to collaps. But she did it! We did it. Another great story to tell to our future hikers. Hehehe
