Heres a very informative piece on buying golf equipment. Here are my notes by section: 1) Beginners should NOT buy without a reputable golf professional doing some basic fitting. I disagree with Frank on that point because Ive seen what happens when a misfit set of clubs, in effect, has a built in slice. 4) Stick with one ball. This is because they all come off the face of identical putt or chip shots with different velocities, which makes changing to a different model mid round bad for touch. 5) Launch monitors are not necessary until you get near par consistently and really need 5 extra yards. Otherwise, the need for accuracy exponentially outweighs minimal distance increases. A good pair of experienced and knowledgeable eyes can deduce most of this via ball flight, which doesnt lie. Plus, on a launch monitor you are using a canned swing, one shot after another, in the groove. Never works that way on the course. 6) Sand wedge bounce depends upon how hard the sand in the bunkers is. At MLGC, our sand is firmly packed and I prefer minimal bounce. With soft sand you need more, as in the diagram. Enjoy the article and if you have any questions, see your PGA or LPGA professional!
