Hey all my FB friends & fellow Baby Boomers.... tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the JFK shooting. Where were you ? How old were you ? What do you remember ? Please share your remembrances. Heres mine: I was in third grade at Oakdale Elementary School , in Amarillo Texas. My class had just come in from recess, right after lunch. One boy who had walked home for lunch came back to class and told us that the President of the U.S. and the President of Texas had just been shot in Dallas. All I could think of at the was there is NO President of Texas.... this kid doesnt know what he talking about. The teacher came in and told us of the shooting, and dismissed class for the day. I cant remember if I walked home or if Mother came to get me, I knew I was happy to be going home. I could play and watch cartoons. All that was on T.V. was News coverage, which was weird. No commercials , No Password( with Alan Luden) No Beverly Hillbillies, NO CARTOONS ! Mother told me I was watching History. I didnt get it. People on T.V. kept praying for the President, telling all of us to pray for him. I didnt understand. Pray for ??? He was still alive and that all our prayers would bring him back to life ? Too much for a little 8 year old to understand, but a defining mark on my childhood. We all grew up more than we should have that day in Dallas.
