Hey everyone! This morning I was lamenting to my sister about my awful night. Skye is cutting new teeth and decided to pitch an apocalyptic fit for three hours in the wee morning. My sister had also had a rough night with her tiny one and posed a good question. How do you keep on track when your so exhausted? And really its a great question! This morning I was pretty bitter at being awakened at 7 when I had just gotten to sleep at 2. I broke down and bought donuts yesterday and they were calling to me this morning. I just want to sit on the couch in my jammies and eat my box of donuts in shame. HOWEVER, I know myself. Theres no way Ill stop at one, and about three bites into donut #2 Ill fall into the deep pit of self loathing....and finish my donut (probably crying) so heres a few things I do to cope with heading for calories on an empty mental/physical/emotional tank. 1- ALWAYS HAVE OATMEAL ON HAND!!!!! While the fancy steel cut is great, buy the cheap stuff and just have it in case of emergency. This is my breakfast of choice most days. Its fast, versatile and you can add so much to make It yummy. Try to avoid the packets because they have a TON of sugar. Sweeten with honey or agave when you can, no need to add the calories and negative effects of brown sugar if you can avoid it. 2- MEAL PREP!!! I am not the sort that spends a whole day cooking chicken and sorting into meals, blah blah blah. It works great for some people but not for me. Mostly because after a few days I dont really want to eat something thats been chilling in my fridge. Also, when my husband is home for dinner Im not making two meals so he can have a super nice fresh one and Im eating my sad Tupperware meal from three days ago. But I do like to make a GIANT salad on the days I buy produce, and that way its all ready for me and I can just hurry and eat it. And dont be afraid to throw everything in! My salad has nuts, brown rice, peppers, avocados, cabbage, onions and probably a thousand other things. And because theres so many things in it, its flavored enough it doesnt even need dressing. Same goes for breakfast. Pinterest is such an amazing tool for you! So many great breakfast bar recipes!!!! I have yet to find one that isnt delish! Make a big batch of oatmeal bars on Sunday, to have all week. I keep them in my diaper bag and car even so that way when I find Im running out of time, I have it right there to turn to. If you want add some protein powder to em and youll get another bonus in them. Sorry this is so long! Most importantly, remember that your human, if you mess up and get the Venti Frapuccino with extra whip and carmel, you wont die. You may slip into a sugar coma, but you wont die. Try your best and give yourself credit! If anyone has great recipes for a quick meal/snack that wont ruin your day, post it!!!!
