Hi Varun Goel, We are a team of students from CEPT university, Ahmedabad. We have taken up a study on the impact of congestion on bus transit in Bangalore. In this regard, it becomes very important to find out what are the reasons which drive people away from bus transit. As a part of this survey we have chosen several parameters of a unique pattern of travel behaviour, of the people, which is observed in Bangalore: Carpooling. Carpooling rivals bus-transit in a way that no other mode of transport does. It also rivals modes such as taxi and auto-rickshaw, which are semi-public, or intermediate public transport. However, the latter remains beyond the scope of this study. As far as bus transit is considered we are trying to compare the responses of a previous survey, we had conducted in Bangalore to find out the reasons people chose bus transit. This comparison will help us find out the propensity of people to pool cars instead of using bus, for some of the same reasons.
