How I Will Rebuild Battered Imo Economy, Says Ken Njemanze, As Imo PDP Guber Hopeful Storm Ngor Okpala LGA Frontline PDP Governorship Aspirant, Ken Njemanze (SAN) continued his ongoing consultations with PDP members in the 27 Local Governments in Imo State with a visit to Ngor Okpala LGA where he outlined series of measures to rebuild the battered state of the Imo economy. Speaking to teeming party members that converged at the party’s LGA secretariat at Umuneke, Njemanze gave a firm promise to improve the economy of Imo State if he is elected the governor of, noting that the state economy has gone from bad to worse. He said he has the capacity, relevant experience and understands the myriad problems bedeviling Imo State, stating that if elected he will focus on industrializing Imo State as panacea to reduce unemployment that is ravaging the people of the State. Njemanze added that the youths in the State have been worst hit by the scourge of unemployment, condemning in strong terms the sack of 10, 000 youths who were gainfully employed in the State civil service by the previous administration but relived of their duties by the Okorocha administration. He assured that he will restore the sacked youths and regularize the appointments of the 25, OOO youths employed by the present government. He however frowned at the meager salaries paid to graduates in the Youth Must Work Program, describing it as pitiable that a graduate employed in the Youth Must Work Initiative are forced to carryout jobs not benefiting of their educational qualification. He promised to place them on a worthy salary scale if elected governor of the State. The former commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of the State also promised to introduce a micro finance scheme where his administration will advance some funds to thousands of youths of Imo State origin to start up small scale businesses. He said that the scheme will go a long way to reduce unemployment in Imo State and provide a path that will lead to wealth creation. Njemanze expressed concern over how the present administration is destroying the legacies of past administrations in Imo State, saying it is regrettable that the present government focused its attention on doing so. He assured that he will complete the projects embarked upon by the Achike Udenwa and Ikedi Ohakim administrations, adding that he has a robust plan to ensure that the economy of Imo State becomes better. He stressed that industrialization remains one of the keys to ensure sustainable economy for the State. He said industrialists are running away from Imo State because of draconian policies, adding that if elected governor of Imo State, he will invite experts in various sectors to contribute to the development of the State in addition to creating a platform that will encourage investors to flock to the State. He identified the power sector as a key to achieving industrialization as he assured that he will ensure Imo State generates sufficient Power supply that will aid in boosting the economy. The Owerri Municipal born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) took a swipe at the free education policy, saying it lacks quality and functionality. He said despite the much trumpeted free education of the present government, Imo State cannot be classified as a State doing well in education as it has been overtaken by other States in the federation in terms of providing quality education While advising party members to “shine their eyes” and elect a credible candidate with no political baggages at the forthcoming primaries, he stressed that the Imo electorate has become wiser and is capable to decipher and choose to elect only candidates with the capacity and experience to pilot the affairs of the State. He advised them to remain united and support his candidature, stating that his legal practice in Imo State which span across many years afforded him the opportunity to transverse the nooks and crannies of the State which made him understand the deplorable condition of the people of the State. In his remarks, the Chairman, Ngor Okpala PDP, Chief Emman Nwogu described Ken Njemanze as one with foresight and vision for Imo State, describing him as one of the best the PDP has to offer. The event was attended by top PDP bigwigs in the area, including all Ward leaders, executives and LGA executives. (#Innonews)
