I am going back to Capitol Hill next month to ask for funding for ovarian cancer research (early detection test and treatments). Please note that we just dont have the numbers of women to go to the Hill because this cancer is so deadly and those that are still in the fight usually dont have the stamina to travel. Therefore I am asking for support from those who love me, like me, used to like me, and even those who merely tolerate me. ;-) You have the opportunity to help change the future for 3-yr old girls who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the teenager who will never graduate high school or have kids, the college gals who will not live to see their 3rd decade, the moms who are fighting to stay alive to see their children grow up (I fall into this category), all the way up to the nanas, grammys, and great-grandmas who get diagnosed much too late. This cancer doesnt discriminate based on age - any female is at risk regardless of age, race, or family history. Its time to make a TEAL ROAR on Capitol Hill and this will take less than 5 minutes. TAKE A MINUTE TO HELP US MAKE SOME NOISE ON CAPITOL HILL The House of Representatives passed Department of Defense appropriations with $20 million for the Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP). Its time to make sure the Senate follows through and secures the funding we need for vital research. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Below is a list of Senators who sit on the Subcommittee for Defense Appropriations. As they consider this important funding, we need to make sure they understand how very important this funding is to the ovarian cancer community. Please look over this list and if one of these Senators is from your state, call their office in Washington D.C. and tell them that you want to urge the Senator to support the Department of Defense OCRP at $20M for FY2015. Here are some reasons you can give: 1.) The Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) funds innovative research that is necessary to finding an early detection test and new treatments for ovarian cancer. (This also creates jobs in research!) 2.) Sustained funding of $20 million for the OCRP will ensure that we don’t lose any recent gains in the fight against ovarian cancer. 3.) 15 of your fellow Senators signed a letter voicing their support for $20 million in funding for the Ovarian Cancer Research Program. 4.) The House of Representatives just passed a Defense Appropriations Bill that includes $20 million for the OCRP. It literally will take you no more than 5 minutes but the research funded by this program could save womens lives. Democrats Patrick J.
