I am inspired by this outreach, myself being a domestic violence survivor, I think the hardest part is after it is over and you are trying to build a new life, it is hard when you dont have support, and I see it all to often moms and children still suffering after they get away because they end up homeless...and support is not put in place to help them get back on there feet as soon as possible...and the understanding of depression that comes with domestic violence is along time to overcome...I myself still suffer from PTSD after 22 years, when arguements, or someone raises their voice I feel threatened and scared...though I have grown quite strong, and moved on on my own, not everyone is capable of pushing past the beginning stages without strong support, and with that comes with a feeling of defeat...the feeling of anger of not only did he beat me but now I am isolated from family and friends so that i am away safe and stuck in a shelter with no backup to get me on my feet....this hits home because my daughter and grandbabies got moved an hour away for protection but we have limited time and transportation to get to them...I hear her on the phone and the struggles she is bearing and as a mom it rips my heart open...my hands are tied...my daughter also suffers from severe depression and was diagnosed as a teenager with bipolar...although she refuses to say that is what she has, it is infact what she has, and suffers horrible with day to day task that we dont think twice about...but she is stuck and it has taken more than 6 months to get counseling....when in fact that should have been the first thing that should have happened for her and the children for they are suffering too...she still isnt on meds for her depression...it saddens me and I feel more should be done or at least a new way of helping these families get back to a normal life...as normal as possible..instead of being lost behind paperwork...thank you Robin for your outreach I hope it opens a path to a new way of doing things.... :)
