I am planning on running for Fredericton city council in the fall, I just wanted to share with everyone a sneak peak of my plateform and see if anybody had some feedback for me or any other fresh ideas that could improve Ward 10/Downtown Fredericton. I would love to hear from you and please feel free to share this post with anyone you think may be interested. Families, Students, Retirees - Communal space for everyone 1) Revival of Rabbit Town Park – Invest in seating, swings or slides and enhancement of this community green space for families in the West Platt. 2) Revitalization of the Exhibition Grounds – Work with the Capital Exhibition Centre to develop the potential of the grounds and facilities such as a field house and more outdoor event infrastructure. 3) Establishing a community garden – With the growing interest in local food, examine possible locations and work with partners and residents to identify and develop a community garden in the heart of the city. 4) Fix the broken link on Aberdeen St between Carleton and York – the addition of Sobeys and the liquor as well as new developments have seen an increase in both car and pedestrian traffic in this area but this block of Aberdeen lacks a sidewalk. While this is technically in Ward 11 I want to work with my fellow councillors to make this busy area safer. People helping people and celebrating our successes 1) Focus on adding more support to the existing shelter and food bank in Ward 10 2) Use our street names to celebrate our home-grown success stories Experience Fredericton 1) Encourage policies to support diverse neighbourhoods that bring together students, young families and seniors and a mix of housing options. 2) Fredericton on foot – Look at policies and infrastructure to encourage a greater pedestrian culture 3) Celebrating our city - Work with Fredericton Tourism and NB Tourism to attract visitors and encourage locals to explore at home. Look at how our attractions, restaurants and accommodations can collaborate on more package deals. 4) Fredericton festivals – grow our reputation as the home to great festivals by working with TNB to develop a Norm Foster Festival for the early summer months.
